9-year-old Augustan wins national hoop shot contest

For fans of the foul shot, names like Rick Barry, Steve Nash and Calvin Murphy are legends.

You can add nine-year-old Nicholas Fortenberry of Augusta to that list.

He's the Elks Club 'Hoop Shoot' Contest national champion, making 23 of 25 shots in the finals.

"I want to play for the New York Knicks," Nicholas said.

Mayor Deke Copenhaver went to Warren Road Elementary School this afternoon to honor Nicholas.

Nicholas' name will go on a plaque that will be on permanent display at the Basketball Hall of Fame in Massachusetts. He plays point guard on three youth teams in the area.
