The last time it happened, a man lost his life.
This time, a driver can consider himself lucky.
Y-key Jenkins' furniture truck hit the Olive Road bridge Thursday afternoon, despite all the new precautions: flashing lights, large stop signs near the bridge, and strips on the road to slow traffic.
The driver and passenger of the truck both had minor injuries.
"I stopped at the stop sign, my partner yelled...but it was too late, we already hit it," Jenkins said.
Back in February, 24-year-old Isaiah Lewis was killed when a truck knocked a beam loose, which fell onto his car.
The road was closed for about a month while the changes were installed.
The bridge is in Commissioner Marion Williams' district. He says the city has done all it can to warn drivers, and still recommends the road stay open.
