AIKEN, S.C. -- 16 bags, each weighing about 45 pounds, of Alli weight lost pills were stolen, according to Investigators in Aiken County, from Glaxo-Smith-Kline by 29-year-old Jeremy Jones.
"You don't just try Alli. You have to commit to it," says a commercial News 12 found on YouTube.
Investigators say one man committed to it alright, he committed a crime. Jones, who was a former temp worker at the plant, is now wanted for stealing more than 700 pounds of the Alli weight loss pills from the Aiken warehouse. They think he did it, all by himself.
"I was shocked when you said only 1 person would have done it because I would think there was more than 1 person," says Lena Dougar, who is a former plant worker.
"The security is good as far as I know. When I was there, it was good. I'm sure it's still good," says Dougar.
But, Investigators say, somehow Jeremy got away with it when he worked at the plant last year.
"It's been a long time since the Sheriff's Office has seen that much product stolen," says Lt. Michael Frank with the ACSO.
Investigators say, apparently, Jeremy repackaged these pills and sold them on e-Bay. But, a customer in Oregon complained about the packaging. He called the company and the company, called the police. Investigators say a day after they talked with Jeremy sales on e-Bay stopped.
"I'm surprised, I really am," says Lena.
This is a release from the Aiken County Sheriff's Office.
The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office holds warrants for the arrest of an Aiken man concerning the theft of $500,000 of “Alli” weight loss capsules from Glaxo Smith Kline, 65 Windham Boulevard, in Aiken, South Carolina.
Jeremy A. Jones, 29, 471 Shiloh Heights Road, Aiken, South Carolina, will be charged with 16 counts of Grand Larceny – More Than $5000.
Employed as a temporary worker with the company from July 2007 to December 2007, the subject removed 16 plastic bags, each weighing an estimated 45 pounds, from the company warehouse. Investigators found Jones then repackaged the capsules in plastic bags and sold them in loose form to customers on eBay. A customer in Oregon complained to the Internet company about the packaging, which aided ACSO in identifying Jones as the seller.
