Commission subcommittee organizes investigation into Parks & Rec. allegations

Augusta city leaders are looking into claims of discrimination and harassment in the Parks and Recreation Department.

A subcommittee met today, headed by commissioner Marion Williams.

The committee is conducting an investigation after complaints from employees in the department. Commissioner Williams says he received more than 15 calls from employees.

Today the committee decided to have the city administrator and the HR director interview those who have filed grievances and come back with a report of the biggest concerns.

"A lot of people got different complaints about things that have been happening as far as promotion, discrimination, pay raises, several things," Williams says.

The committee will meet again in two weeks.

Department head Tom Beck says most of the grievances he's seen are unwarranted, and he says he has addressed every issue.
