Today, May 15, 2006 is the deadline to sign up for the new Medicare prescription benefit known as Medicare D.
While enrollment is not mandatory, enrollment after today carries increased penalties.
Senior citizens across the country are reaching out for last minute help signing up for the new prescription drug plan ahead of the midnight enrollment deadline.
But missing the deadline means you won't be able to sign up again until November...and it will cost you.
"People who don't sign up by tonight will be facing penalties, premium penalties for the rest of their lives," says Robert Hayes, president of the Medicare Rights Center.
