Roaming bear captured in south Augusta

The bear roaming in south Augusta has been captured.

It was captured Saturday, May 13 at the Sunoco gas station at Bobby Jones and Highway 56.

Richmond County deputies and wildlife officers followed the bear and were able to position a regional state wildlife biologist within 20 feet of it.

The biologist fired a tranquilizer dart and officers loaded the bear into a trap.

The bear was taken to Rabun County in north Georgia and released.
