AUGUSTA, Ga.---A local program is hurting for tutors, as enrollment increases.
The Augusta State University Literacy Center offers tutoring for just $10 a semester, and everyday the waiting list gets longer and longer.
Right now they are serving about 500 students but another 120 or so are on a waiting list, in need of a tutor.
They are looking for more tutors, especially teachers or retired teachers, but anyone can help.
"To help the kids make them better and give them a future, not just to go to college, but to do well," said Simi Aduayi, a tutor from ASU.
"Last year was a little bit hard so I'm happy this year with the tutoring. I'm hoping it will be a lot easier and smoother for me," said eighth grader Mary Grace Watwood.
They tutor Monday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
For the $10 supply fee, students get 2 sessions per week, which are one-hour each.
It's not just for kids; they also tutor adults, a lot of times for the GED.
If you're interested, or would like to volunteer call the center at 706-733-7043.
