AUGUSTA -- A Richmond County deputy involved in a deadly accident a few months ago is recovering, after getting into his second accident since April.
Monday afternoon, Richmond County Deputy Danny Key hit a light pole on Telfair Street and also knocked down a railroad crossing sign.
An orange cone covers the wiring of the street light that Key hit Monday around noon. The railroad sign has already been put back up.
Sheriff Ronnie Strength told News 12 Deputy Key blacked out when he hit the pole near the Municipal Building.
There were no skid marks near the scene that we could find. Deputy Key was checked out, but not taken to the hospital.
Back in April, he was involved in another wreck in Burke County. This one killed an inmate he was transporting, and sent Key and another inmate, who was in the car, to the hospital.
Sheriff Strength says it was determined that this wreck was the fault of another driver.
For that, the Sheriff says these two accidents are not considered related. Because he blacked out, we're told Deputy Key is undergoing some tests now to check out the severity of the situation.
