Despite the forecast of spring rain, a ban on open burning will soon take effect in Columbia County.
The state-ordered ban begins May 1 and runs through September 30.
It's part of the state's plan to improve air quality during the upcoming smog season.
This is the second year for the ban in Columbia County.
The only exceptions to the ban are campfires and agricultural burning.
