AUGUSTA, Ga--Crystal Jackson couldn't be there for her son when it all happened but she was with him in court to support him through a familiar situation.

"I cried at that point because that's something I never want my son to have to go through being that I just went through that, " said Crystal.

Crystal was released from jail herself just a month ago on charges of theft by deception, but her son's charges are much bigger, killing a man. Coreon was one of two people accused of shooting Roosevelt Cowins in his home on Fenwick Street back in March. His partner, 21 year old Willie Casey hanged himself in jail shortly after he was arrested.

"I am sorry for the victims in this case, and as it was stated in court today, Coreon was a victim as well, " said Crystal.

Since Coreon is under the age of 13, he was sentenced to 8 1/2 years in juvenile jail. As for the victim's sister, the maximum sentence wasn't enough.

"He needs more time than they are giving him because that's not going to bring my brother back, " said Lillian Trant.

Neither will it ease the pain that crystal's dealing with knowing her son will spend his teenage years behind bars.

"I don't think its really set in yet, you know. Because no parent can really want to hear that, but i heard it and there's nothing i could do. I wish it was, but its nothing I could do, " said Crystal.

As a part of his sentencing, the judge said Coreon must get his GED. The judge also said the Department of Juvenile Justice could come before the court with a recommendation of an early release if he meets the conditions of his sentence.
