AIKEN - Another Aiken County narcotics investigator is off the job.

News 12 has learned Sheriff Michael Hunt has fired 37-year-old Daniel Gainey of Williston, South Carolina. An internal investigation found he operated a personal business while on duty.

Sheriff Hunt says Gainey also failed to properly complete time sheets for employees he supervised.

He started working for the sheriff's office in December of 2001, and he had only been working in the narcotics division since October of last year when four other narcotics officers were fired and one resigned.

Sheriff Hunt says Investigator James Crowell, Lieutenant Jonathon Owenby, Investigator Tim Roberts, and Investigator Luke Williamson took an unmarked county-owned car to a bar in Augusta.
They then picked up two women and went to a hotel.

A 5th narcotics investigator, Brian Owens, wasn't there at the time, but he later resigned because of it. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion. Please respect and abide by the house rules:
