Twice-convicted child molesters could soon be eligible for death penalty in South Carolina

A bill that makes twice-convicted child molesters eligible for the death penalty cleared the South Carolina Senate today.

Lawmakers approved the Sex Offender Accountability and Protection of Minors Act as part of a larger bill.

It sets minimum sentences and lifetime electronic monitoring for some sex offenders.

The bill now heads to the House.
