It's a contract worth a quarter million dollars a year...and Richmond County taxpayers are footing the bill.
School board member A.K. Hasan has been questioning Charles Larke's contract for weeks.
Monday morning he had more questions.
This time A.K. Hasan's press conference on superintendent Dr. Charles Larke's contract focused on salary and benefits.
Monday morning, Richmond County board members A.K. Hasan, Barbara Pulliam and Joe Scott held a press conference.
They say the public is under the assumption that Dr. Larke makes $176,000.
But these board members say there is a clause in the contract that allows for 25 percent tax-free annuities.
This year Dr. Larke is expected to add more than $55,000 to his salary from fringe benefits like tax-free annuities.
"It would be our recommendation that this clause be completely removed from the superintendent's contract. As we indicated, it has led to the depositing of $271,936 over the past seven years," says Hasan.
We spoke with Dr. Larke.
He says he is unable to comment on the press conference since his evaluation is still out.
