Aiken County manhunt ends on Gordon Highway in Augusta

A Warrenville man, sought in connection with a series of burglaries and thefts in Aiken County, is being held by Richmond County authorities in Augusta, Georgia.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Department on Saturday arrested Christopher E. Arthur, 27, 140 Jon Road, Warrenville, South Carolina.

RCSD arrested the subject about 5:30 p.m. for shoplifting at K-Mart, 1647 Gordon Highway, in Augusta. Further investigation revealed the subject was staying at a nearby motel, where investigators arrested his girlfriend, Crystal L. Newsome, 19, 258 Carline Road, Burnettown, South Carolina.

Arthur is suspected in a series of burglaries since December 2005 in North Augusta, Warrenville, Gloverville and Aiken, South Carolina.

On January 17, Arthur and Newsome smashed the rear window of a home, and while inside, took a handgun from 609 Cherokee Drive, North Augusta.

Arthur faces charges in Aiken County of Burglary - First Degree (two counts), Burglary - Second Degree (two counts) and Grand Larceny.
Newsome faces charges of Burglary - First Degree.
