AUGUSTA, Ga.---Almost everyone is complaining about prices at the pump, so some people are downsizing in order to save.
Nikki Hodge has a new way to get around.
"I just needed something that got better gas mileage to get me to and from work," she said.
So instead of driving her SUV, she got a scooter.
"I was paying $300 a month in gas and this isn't even gonna cost me $36," she said.
High gas prices have some looking into different ways to get around. And with so many people looking to save, it's really fueling sales of motorcycles and scooters.
"My sales are up about 30 percent over last year," said Tom Clancy, who owns motorcycle store Augusta Triumph/Ducati.
Even though he hates to see gas prices so high, he's glad they're helping his business.
"I think we'll see more and more people riding scooters or small motorcycles in the future," he said.
He only sells motorcycles right now but about four people call a day asking if he sells scooters. He's so convinced people will buy them, he's going to start selling them soon.
"Anything that can double or triple what you're getting in your car now can definitely help," he said.
"This [scooter] gets 70 miles to the gallon of gas. I love it," said Hodge.
And she isn't nervous traveling on all the roads she used to. In fact, she says she's going to about 75 miles an hour.
"It does excellent. I go down Gordon Highway. I have no problem keeping up with traffic," she said.
Her ride's a little different now, but it's her way of dealing with gas prices that don't seem to have a cap.
"We have to suck it up and this is my way of sucking it up," she said.
Scooters and motorcycles vary in sizes so that can vary how many miles to a gallon they get and how fast they can go.
The price of scooters starts at around $1,000 and goes up to about $9,000. Motorcycles start around $4,000.
In order to drive one on the road, you have to have a special license.
