Georgia Department of Transportation
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 2, 2006
The Georgia Department of Transportation announces that one lane of Davis Road will be closed on Saturday in the area of Spring House Apartments. The closure will cover approximately 300 feet of roadway. Traffic will be controlled by a flagman.
Davis Road is commonly used as a quicker exit for Augusta Exchange shoppers and known for heavy traffic, especially on weekends. The Georgia DOT suggests that area residents and shoppers take an alternate route this Saturday. The road closure will cause some delays in travel times.
“We want to encourage motorists to take an alternate route,” stated Area Engineer Scott Stephens. “For those who will continue to use Davis Road this Saturday, we want to warn them that there will be workers in and around the road. It is imperative for the safety of these workers and for the motorists themselves that everyone drive cautiously and patiently.”
Workers will be installing a barrier wall on Saturday as part of the project to widen Walton Way Extension/Davis Road and add a half diamond interchange at I-20 .The closure is presently scheduled to last one day only.
