Richmond County investigators think they know who is responsible for a string of armed robberies in the CSRA. The latest happened in Waynesboro at the Dollar General Store. Waynesboro Police believe Terry Carter, Jr. is the man behind these thefts. News 12 speaks with one of the victims.
Brandy Vickery says she was stocking coolers at the Dollar General Store in Waynesboro when an armed robber walked in on February 13.
“When he had the gun I looked at the floor. I didn’t want to give him any reason to hurt me,” Vickery said. “He told the other girl to hang up the phone and give us the cash.”
Brandy is the latest victim in a rash of armed robberies at Dollar General Stores that have been going on in the CSRA for months.
“When the one on Mike Padgett got hit I knew it was only a matter of time,” Vickery said.
Waynesboro police say Terry Carter, Jr. is who they are looking for.
“Subsequent investigation led our team to identify one of the subjects as Terry Carter, Jr.,” said Waynesboro Police Chief Karl Allen.
Richmond County authorities say they believe Terry Carter, Jr. is also a suspect in several of their robberies.
“Several days ago we issued a warrant for his arrest for the robbery of the Eckerd in Daniel Village,” said Major Ken Autry.
Richmond County investigators also believe Terry Carter, Jr. is responsible for this robbery at Eckerd on Walton Way and another on Washington Road. Those happened on the same day.
“The guy is a suspect in numerous robberies and that prompted us to offer a $1,000 reward leading to his arrest,” Autry said.
“I’m more observant, I watch the parking lot more like I say we have a police escort,” Vickery said.
But one thing Brandy has learned is that you can never be too safe.
Authorities are also investigating whether Terry Carter, Jr. is responsible for an armed robbery at Burlington Coat Factory and a local grocery store.
