A mother says she warned her daughter about staying with the man who may have killed her. Maurice Wilson is in the Edgefield County Jail on charges he stabbed his wife while her two children watched. News 12 has the latest from Edgefield.

Clean up crews are here cleaning up the stabbing scene. Investigators say it happened in this home Sunday night. They say a husband killed his wife. News 12 talked to the victim’s mother who says she warned her daughter not to marry this man.

“She was a good hearted person,” said Gwen Morgan.

Gwen Morgan remembers her 25-year-old daughter Gwendolyn Denise Wilson. Gwen found her daughter’s stabbed body Monday. Denise’s 9 and three-year-old sons watched the murder and met their grandmother at the door.

“I know it hurt him because it hurt me when I walked in and he’s telling me I’m glad y’all came cause Maurice done killed my mom. And I walked in the house and she was laying in all the blood,” Gwen said.

The boys say Maurice Wilson stabbed their mom, then cut the phone line and left town.

Wilson was caught in Laurnes County Monday evening and is now in the Edgefield County Jail for murder.

“I did speak with the chief investigator this morning and he told me more charges were coming,” said Robbie Harter, Edgefield County Sheriff’s Department.

The sheriff’s office hasn’t been to this home for a domestic call before, but Gwen says Wilson hurt Denise in the past.

“I told her to stay away from Newberry, but she wouldn’t do it,” Gwen said.

The couple married four months ago. They were regulars at the County Line Store, Thelma Ouzts’ last customers Saturday night.

“She got three pints of ice cream and a honey bun and he was standing over there looking at movies,” Thelma said.

Thelma says she too warned Denise about Wilson.

“You say she’d talked about getting beat up by her husband before? She didn’t have to, I saw it. I thought she was going to loose her eye, he beat her up,” Thelma said.

As for the children, the 9-year-old and the three-year-old, their toys still sit in the yard. Their grandmother says she’ll watch them now.

The preliminary autopsy report came back a few hours ago. It says Denise died from two stab wounds to the heart.
