ATLANTA -- State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond announced today that the Batman Ride at Six Flags will be re-opened at 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, with recommendations for upgraded security, signage, and fencing. The ride has been closed since Saturday, June 28.
Commissioner Thurmond said recommendations from the Safety Engineering Division of the Georgia Department of Labor include three areas:
Security: Given the potential hazard posed by unauthorized access to this ride, security personnel should be stationed in the area and provide continuous, on-the-ground surveillance during operation of the ride until the signage and fencing changes outlined by the department are in place.
Signage: Although signage attached to the ride protection fencing surrounding the ride meet state and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards, given the significant hazard to individuals entering the area, the number and size of signage should be increased and the message elevated to include the words "Extreme Danger."
Fencing: As with signage, inner perimeter fencing surrounding the ride meets state and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards. However, given the significant hazard to unauthorized individuals entering the area, fencing that provides a more effective barrier to their access should be installed.
