COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina is setting aside $2 million
to pay for cancer screening for low-income women.
The money will be used for the Best Chance Network, which
encourages testing for breast and cervical cancer.
The extra money will help the program reach more women. It had
been paid for with federal money and reached about 8,000 people, or
10 percent of eligible women.
Studies have shown uninsured cancer patients are much more
likely to die from the disease than those with insurance.
