AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- The jury has found an Augusta man guilty of kidnapping a child and mother last year.
Leonard Sapp was found guilty of kidnapping with bodily injury and hijacking a motor vehicle on Friday. He was found not guilty of attempted rape and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime.
Investigators say Sapp held an Augusta mother and her 2-year-old at knife point on Jones Street. They say Sapp made Ashley Nay drive to the Hicks Street area where investigators say he then tried to sexually assault her.
A woman realized what was happening and was able to get the 2-year-old out of the car while Nay fought off Sapp with help from two good Samaritans.
