Proposed rail service route could link Atlanta to Charlotte through Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- A high-speed rail service may find its way through Augusta connecting Atlanta to Charlotte.

The drafted Atlanta to Charlotte Passenger Rail Corridor Investment Plan route is one of six possible ways to connect the two cities, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation's website.

The project began in June 2012 and is scheduled to finish in June 2015, according to the website.

In the photo above, the route going through Augusta is highlighted in purple.

There will be three public meetings in the next three days to discuss the possibilities.
