Former State Senator Charles Walker has exactly a week to report to federal prison. During the trial and sentencing, Walker never spoke to reporters regarding the case. That is, until now. On Thursday morning, he only spoke to radio personalities on WAAW-Rejoice 94.7. News 12 was the only television station invited it sit in.
It was this small Aiken-based radio station that former Senator Charles Walker opened up to, radio personalities Larry Adamson and Ryan B, a week before Walker has to report to federal prison.
“Really, how are you holding up and with your departure, are you ready for that?”
“Well, you never get ready for any of these kinds of activities, but me and my family we’re doing as well as we can. My family is very strong and I just want to thank all of the people for all of the phone calls, cards, the letters, I want them to continue to pray for me and to continue to pray for my family,” Walker said.
News 12 was the only television there during the phone interview. We didn’t ask any questions, just listened in.
“Is there anything you would like to say to the community as a whole?”
“This process is far from over. The fact of the matter is I believe in the criminal justice system and I believe it has corrective powers and I hope these corrective powers will come into play as we continue our struggles as we establish where we are and where we are going,” Walker said.
It’s the first time Walker is speaking out since the indictment, the guilty verdict on conspiracy and fraud charges and his 10-year sentence to federal prison. He picked Rejoice 94.7 to share his feelings during the Water Cooler segment.
“He trusted and believed in Rejoice 94.7,” Ryan B said.
“He’s okay, I’ve had a chance to see him. He’s the strong Senator Walker that he is,” Adamson said.
Allowing the community that he once served a chance to hear that he will be okay.
“I want to thank you all and God bless you and I will see you soon,” Walker said.
Walker says he did not talk about the case specifically because of other pending issues with the case. You can listen to the whole interview that Charles Walker did with Rejoice 94.7 by clicking here. (This audio is used with permission from Rejoice 94.7).
