ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) -- A teacher and minister from South
Carolina has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for transmitting
child pornography and attempting to entice a person he thought was
a 13-year-old boy for sex.
Timothy Lynn Brumit, 48, of Aiken, S.C., admitted Wednesday he
sent more than 600 pieces of child pornography via the Internet to
a person he thought was a teenage boy, but was actually an
undercover officer from Dumfries, Va.
Brumit tried to convince the boy to meet him in South Carolina
for sex.
At the time of Brumit's arrest in January, he was an English
teacher at Batesburg-Leesville High School. He also served as a
minister in various South Carolina churches.
The 25-year term was in line with federal sentencing guidelines
and higher than the 15-year term requested by the defense.
