They allegedly found the child, Rosalynn Fullmore, unresponsive in her bassinet around 2 p.m. The child was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Investigators found methamphetamine, a substance believed to be marijuana and a handgun inside the home.
Benton and Fullmore, both convicted felons, are being held without bond in the Emanuel County Jail. They are charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of firearm by a convicted felon.
They could also be charged in the infant's death, pending autopsy results.
