More trash talk in Augusta on Monday, this time between two of the companies that pick up trash for thousands of Augusta homeowners.

A-1 Disposal was asking for more money from Advanced Disposal. That’s the company that contracts them to pick up trash. A-1 was asking for more money because of the contract’s mandate that all garbage trucks be no more than five years old, which meant that A-1 would have to spend money to replace their trucks, some of which are nine or ten years old.

After negotiating for hours, both companies decided to work together and Advanced Disposal agreed on a rate of $12, still short of the $14 that A-1 was asking for.

If no decision was reaching Monday, Commissioner Andy Cheek told News 12 trash pickup in January may have been interrupted.
