An inmate has escaped from the Wilcox State Prison. He's Billy Hammock of Burke County. He has a tatoo on his upper right arm.
The Jenkins County Sheriff's office tells us he escaped around nine o'clock last night. Several agencies and a K-9 unit came out to look for him, but have had no luck so far. However, investigators believe he is no longer in the immediate area. He has a long history of crime -- but the sheriff's office says he has DUI charges and is a "habitual violator" -- which means he's committed at least three serious driving offenses within a five year period. If you've seen Billy Hammock, or know where he is -- please call authorities.
