AUGUSTA, Ga.---He's been a member of the Coliseum Authority for some time, but Freddie Sanders tells News 12 now is the time to step down.
Sanders submitted his letter of resignation this afternoon, citing a News 12 web poll as one reason he chose to leave the Authority.
Sanders says with 92 percent of people voting for every member of the Coliseum Authority to resign, he gets the message loud and clear.
"At least we've done more to get the whole community together than anything else," he said. "92% says we need to resign...I don't agree with that. I think you should look at every individual. But if they feel like as a body we need to do that, then I want them to understand that I'm going to do it. If I'm the only one that resigns, I'm going to be the only one that resigns."
Sanders may have resigned today, but the Augusta Commission appoints several of the board members. Sanders is Commissioner Jimmy Smith's appointee. Commissioner Smith will have to decide whether to accept Mr. Sanders' resignation.
