AUGUSTA, Ga – Twenty-seven-year-old Shaun Perdue, a convicted sex offender, is in the Richmond County jail charged with the murder of a two-month-old baby.
Richmond County Homicide Investigator James Kelly says an autopsy showed the victim, Kylia Mack, died of injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome.
Investigator Kelly says the incident happened last Wednesday, May 21 at 3519 Garden Brook Drive in Augusta.
According to investigators, Perdue was watching the baby for his girlfriend, Lakeisha Goodwin, while she went to class. Inv. Kelly says Perdue was home alone with the baby from 8:45 that morning until about noon when he went across the street to the neighbor's house to ask for help because the baby was not breathing.
Kylia Mack was rushed to Eisenhower Army Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
Inv. Kelly says Perdue was arrested the next day, Thursday May 22 and charged with the murder of Kylia Mack.
Perdue went before Judge Jennings Friday, May 23 for a bond hearing and his bond was denied.
Perdue was convicted of Statutory Rape in September 2000 and is registered as a sex offender with the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.
