AUGUSTA--The amount you pay for car insurance could be going up in Georgia could be going down as well.

That's because Governor Sonny Perdue signed a bill to deregulate the insurance companies which allows them to set their own prices starting in October.

Now they still have to file the rate increase with the Insurance Commissioner's office, but the commissioner can no longer veto the increase.

It's something many of you probably fear on the road, getting into a wreck with someone who isn't insured. It could cost you big bucks, unless you have the proper coverage.

The new provision in this bill allows you some extra protection in the case of a wreck with an uninsured driver.

That means you'll have 3 options to make sure you'll be fully covered. You can choose no protection, a basic level of protection or an enhanced level that will cost more, but also provide better coverage.

So, again, you choose from no coverage, basic coverage and an enhanced coverage.

"It only affects the only portion we've seen that it affects is the uninsured motorist provision, the affect, if you choose the first option will be a slight increase." said David Colmans of the Georgia Insurance Information Service.

Again, that first option is more the more expensive option and the more comprehensive option...And even getting that shouldn't raise your bill much.

This is a tad confusing and you should contact your insurance agent to make sure you are insured to the level you want to be.
