COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- The South Carolina Army National Guard
says a soldier from Taylors has been killed in Afghanistan.

Guard officials say 38-year-old Specialist David Lee Leimbach
died Sunday when his unit was hit with small arms fire and
rocket-propelled grenades as it assisted in the recovery of a
stolen vehicle.

Leimbach had completed his tour of duty with the South Carolina
218th Brigade Combat Team, which returned home earlier this month.

But Guard commander Major General Stanhope Spears said Leimbach
volunteered to stay in Afghanistan and serve with a unit from the
New York National Guard.

Leimbach had served four years with the South Carolina Army
National Guard.
