Robbed and run over

Aiken, SC --- It started as a typical night at Greg's Gas Plus for Amanda Borsodi. She was working her usual shift Monday evening when something very unusual happened.

"It's a little scary being so close to the store, and of course we're right out by the state line so that don't make it any more comforting," Amanda Borsodi said.

Aiken County investigators said 64-year old Mizelle Bennett of Hephzibah stopped at this ice machine and left her door open. She had just bought a bag of ice when she saw a man grab her purse. Investigators said the suspect ran back to his car, when Bennett tried to stop him.

"There was a bit of a struggle. She grabbed the man, and he pushed her away," Lt. Michael Frank said.

The suspect threw the car in reverse. Bennett fell to the ground, and he ran over her arm.

"You're having to make decisions at a split second. And unfortunately she was injured in this situation," Lt. Frank said.

This is surveillance video from that night. It didn't catch the robbery or the run-over, but it caught this. Here you can see two people running towards the victim who is calling for help. Then, the people step back as the black Honda CR-V takes off. Next, a silver pickup truck chases after the suspect but loses him in traffic.

"It's more sad than anything. You can't even get a bag of ice without. And she's an older lady that just didn't deserve it," Borsodi said.

Amanda has been working at Greg's Gas Plus for almost four years and has never experienced a day at work, like this one.

"Now a days it's not surprising. I mean I guess when it's this close to where your at it is a little bit more, makes you aware a little bit more," Borsodi said.

We don't know Bennet's condition tonight. All we know is she was taken to University Hospital. The suspect was last seen driving a black Honda CR-V. If you have any information, call the Aiken County Sheriff's Office or Crime Stoppers of the Midlands at 888-559-TIPS. You can remain anonymous and are eligible for a cash reward up to $1,000.
