AUGUSTA--With storms like the ones that have hit recently, it's a good idea to review your property insurance policy.
Of course, property insurance is one of those things you may need to read all the details on. That means the fine print and the fine print between the fine print.
That way, when storms hit the area like the ones that did on Tuesday, you are prepared.
Make sure you are covered for hail, wind damage and know if there are terms if you make claims on those. And if you get flooded, please be aware that no homeowner's policy will cover you in the event of a flood. You have to get a separate flood insurance policy.
And it is a good idea to reassess your policy every year, because you might need some changes made.
"We tend to accumulate things in the home, get rid of things in garage sales. You want to make sure that any thing that needs to be insured specially, as opposed to general policy, is covered." said David Colmans of the Georgia Insurance Information Service.
The best idea is just to make sure you're familiar with your policy so there are no surprises if you need to make a claim.
