Man accused of hitting mother, 8-year-old

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- An Augusta man has been arrested on child cruelty charges.
John Lee Neil Jones allegedly showed up at the home of his child's mother on Leonard Drive Feb. 9. When he was there, investigators say he got into an argument with the child's mother and started hitting her while she was holding their 7-month-old.
The woman's 8-year-old child tried to stop Jones, which is when he allegedly struck and knocked her to the floor.
Jones, 29, was arrested on Feb. 21 and is charged with battery and cruelty to children in the third degree.
