SUMTER, S.C. (AP) -- Sumter County Sheriff Anthony Dennis says an off-duty deputy has been killed in a wreck.

Dennis says 36-year-old Carl Wesley Pringle died in the wreck about 2:45 a.m. today south of Sumter. Pringle died at the scene. He was wearing a seat belt and police say alcohol didn't appear to be involved.

State troopers say Pringle lost control of his personal car and it struck a culvert and overturned.
