AUGUSTA, Ga.---She's one of opera's brightest stars, but she never wants to forget the city where she found her incredible voice. That city is Augusta, and Jessye Norman is that star.

Today, Norman spent some time being serenaded by children who attend her art school. She also did something she rarely ever does--sat down with reporters to answer questions.

"Children are in such need of positive environments," she said. "Or positive means of expressing all the incredible energy that they have anyway. And to be a part of that, it really gives me great joy."

Norman continues lending her name and support to good causes. In September of 2003, the Jessye Norman School of the Arts opened its doors to talented middle school students for studies in music performance, drama, dance and art. Students attend this after-school program tuition free.

Tomorrow, there's a fundraising golf tournament for the school at Belle Meade Country Club in Thomson.
