Augusta, GA__
Edmund A. Booth, Jr., U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia, today announced that Derrick C. Mauldin, age 32 of Augusta, Georgia, was sentenced on May 8, 2008 in U.S. District Court in Augusta to 57 months imprisonment on his conviction of possession of child pornography, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2252A(a) by U.S. District Judge Lisa Godbey Wood. Judge Wood also ordered Mauldin to pay a $10,000 fine and to serve a lifetime period of Supervised Release, under the supervision of the United States Probation Office. Evidence during the guilty plea hearing showed that Mauldin possessed over 460 images depicting child pornography.
Booth noted that this prosecution was the result of a national investigation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement into subscriptions to illegal child pornography web sites. Locally, Special Agent Tom West of Immigration and Custom Enforcement assisted in the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Julie Wade represented the Government.
