AIKEN, S.C.---Plans to ban smoking in restaurants and public places in the city of Aiken may get new life.

The city council is having a special meeting May 20 to talk about the idea and to hear from people.

The South Carolina Supreme Court recently gave the go-ahead for cities and other local areas to enact smoking bans.

Unincorporated areas in Aiken County already have a ban.

I live in Ohio but my daughter is a student at USCA. Please keep Aiken free. If you want to examine disaster, look to my home state where the smoking ban has cost a loss of over 350 established bar businesses, has racked up over 29,000 violations in less than a year, has caused 14 of 88 counties to stop enforcement because of the expense, has cost the state $350 to enforce a $100 fine, and has been a dismal failure. In my state, the anti smoking foundation recently tried to grab $270 million in state funds and send them to DC headquarters. The end result was the state of Ohio abolished the anti smoking groups. Please keep Aiken and its business owners free to decide whether they want to allow smoking or not.

Thank goodness they are finally taking a look at this. You know, You go out to a nice resturant to eat, sit down, the food comes, and someone right next to you lights up a smoke. Appetite ruined. Why do smokers want to make the air bad for everyone? They make it bad enough for themselves and the ones around them. You'd think that by going to a closed in area where there are people ranging from babies to the elderly, that the climate could be controlled by not smoking for an hour while you eat a nice meal. PLEASE. MAKE THE DEAL
