Murder Conviction Overturned

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) -- A judge has ordered a new trial for a death
row inmate convicted 20 years ago for the murders of a Wayne County
couple and their teen-age son.
Superior Court Judge Gary McCorvey ruled that prosecutors
withheld evidence that may have given jurors reason to doubt that
Larry Lee of Savannah committed the slayings. The judge's April
28th ruling also says Lee's defense lawyer provided ineffective
counsel.
A jury sentenced Lee to death in December 1987 for the shooting
deaths of Clifford and Nina Jones and their 14-year-old son,
Jerold. The family was found shot to death at a restaurant they
owned in rural Wayne County.
