Late Night Fire:
Still no word, as to what caused a major fire at a home in McCormick County late last night. It happened at 107 Riverbend Drive. That's located just off Highway 28. Firefighters got the call around eleven or so last night. Neighbors say the home belonged to a pastor, and they'd been doing some re-modeling last week.
Murder Suspect In Jail:
The man investigators believe is behind a murder at a local gas station, is off the streets and behind bars. Levaughn Sloans Junior now faces charges in the death of 23-year old Antonio President. Investigators say after an argument, he shot and killed President last week. It happened at the Corner Store, located on the 2300 block of Wheeless Road.
Copper Theft Crackdown:
South Carolina legislators are trying to cut down on people stealing copper, and selling it for cash. Under the proposal heading to the Senate, people selling scrap copper would have to show photo i-d. The proposal makes theft of copper, aluminum, and stainless steel beer kegs a felony. If the loss or damage caused by the theft is more than five-thousand dollars, the thief could face up to ten years in prison.
Damages between one and five thousand dollars would mean five years behind bars. The bill aslo states that scrap dealers must make photocopies of a seller's i-d.
