AUGUSTA, GA--An attorney for the 6-year-old son of a woman who claimed to be James Brown's wife when he died says an independent DNA test confirms the soul singer fathered the child.

Peter Shahid, an attorney for James Brown II's guardian, told the Associated Press on Friday that the boy was tested in April before a South Carolina judge ordered a paternity test.

Brown II is the son of Tomi Rae Hynie, a former backup singer for the Godfather of Soul.

The results of the court-ordered test have not been released.

Trustees handling Brown's estate have suggested Hynie was not legally married to Brown and her boy is not his son. They were not mentioned in Brown's will.

A call to a spokesman for Hynie and a message left for Brown's
trustees were not immediately returned.

Brown died in Atlanta on Christmas Day 2006.

Congratulations! James Brown II -- like so many children born of wedlock you too should know who your father is and in your case was. Good luck to you!

This would be so good to clear up before this young fellow gets any older. I don't know how much he understands about all this, but I will be glad if it is proven that James Brown is his father, for everyone's sake, especially James Brown II's. The uncertainties have to be having a negative affect on him, directly and indirectly. His mother has gone through more than most women could bear, private and/or public. My heart goes out to them both. If James Brown had no objection to having a namesake born to Tomi Rae, and his legitimacy was questioned, in a just world, those "children" that questioned his legitimacy, should also be tested. Where is King Solomon when you need him?
