AIKEN, SC--A Kennedy Middle School teacher had died. Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton says 47-year old Ann Fox Smith was pronounced dead at her house Friday around five o'clock.

According to Carlton, Ms. Fox was found unresponsive by coworkers who got worried when she did not show up for school Friday morning. Her coworkers went to house Friday afternoon and that's when they found her.

At this time it is not clear how Ms. Fox died although Carlton says evidence at the scene makes her death seem quite suspicious.

An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow morning in Newberry, South Carolina.

Ms. Fox's death is being investigated by Aiken Deportment of Public Safety, Aiken County Forensic Unit and the Aiken County Coroner's Office.

According to a friend of the family, Ms. Smith taught special education and was renting a home on Whitney Drive, which is off Whiskey Road in Aiken.
