Washington, DC

The Treasury Department says tax rebates will go out starting Monday, April 28.

2.4 million tax filers will be sent the rebates Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. There won't be any payments Thursday, and 5 million more taxpayers will get payments on Friday, May 2.

The rebates are going out earlier than expected because of an updated
computer program.

The Treasury Department plans to hand out $110 billion by July.

The payments are the center of the economic stimulus program approved in February. The idea is to get people to spend the money and help the slow economy.

You have to file a 2007 federal income tax return in order to get a rebate.

Those with direct deposit will get their payments first.

Single tax payers will get up to $600, couples $1200, plus $300 rebate per child for parents.

Rebates to those who will be getting a paper check will start May 9th.

The order is based on the last two digits of your social security number.

To:All tax payers all checks will be sent out in a timely manner ,we all need the funds and the system is already set up to go in that order. We all just need to be a little patience the funds are comeing ,thank you!

Posted by: Anonymous on May 12, 2008 at 04:55 PM
you are not guaranteed to get 1800 or even 600. if you read everything closely- it says UP TO- that amount. everyones refund will be different.

Posted by: leeddsd on May 10, 2008 at 09:00 PM
We received our stimulus, and I think they lied about what they where sending. We make no where near $150,000. We're married, have 2 kids, and were expecting $1800. Well all we received was $1235.20. I guess I shouldn't complain because at least we did get something but if they say there going to do something, then they need to do what they said.

Posted by: Debra Hutcheson Location: Swainsboro on May 7, 2008 at 11:37 PM
I read that if you had any fees taken out of your tax refund that you could not get the tax stimulus payment by direct deposit even though you direct deposited the refund. Has anyone else heard of that. They say that you will still get the stimulus payment but it will be in the form of a paper check. Anybody else?

The tax rebate that i will receive will be very helpful this time of year. I am self-employed and my business has somewhat slowed down and i could really use the money to pay my utility bills and save whats left for my house payment coming soon.

Posted by: Thomas Location: Evans on Apr 28, 2008 at 05:12 PM
Georgette...The tax rebate is a advance payment of a one time tax credit for next year. We will not have to repay this.

Posted by: JENN Location: VANDERGRIFT on Apr 26, 2008 at 01:31 PM
I THINK THIS IS A GREAT THING THAT THE GOVERNMENT IS DOING FOR US. I LOST MY JOB IN FEB. UNEMPLOYMENT HELPS BUT THIS MONEY WILL HELP ME TO PAY FOR EXTRA THINGS THAT I NEED BUT CANT AFFORD.

Posted by: Georgette Location: Augusta on Apr 25, 2008 at 06:22 PM
Is it true that the Tax Rebates that are being sent out starting May 9th will be taken out of the tax payer's 2008 refund? If not, where is the money coming from?
