RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW)-- After almost 12 hours of searching in the Augusta Canal, authorities have finally found a body believed to be that of the truck driver who crashed his vehicle earlier this morning.

He has been identified by the Richmond County Coroner as Cedric Miller, 48, of Hartsville, S.C.

Divers that found the body say they found it around 300 feet away from the area where the truck landed. They say Miller's body was about 10 feet deep underwater.

An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow in Atlanta

RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW) -- A body was found in the Augusta Canal Thursday afternoon, after an 18-wheeler cab ran off the bridge early Thursday morning, The Richmond County Sheriff's Office said. Deputies said the body was found not far from I-20.

The eastbound lanes on I-20 near the state line are now open.

Augusta Utilities says they are not pumping water from the canal because of the accident. However, water is being pumped from the river with diesel pumps. The company says they are trying to keep the flow off the canal while they search for the driver.

Crews were originally called out to the scene around 3:50 a.m.

The guardrail is gone at the Augusta Canal where the truck went over the side.

One lane of traffic is open, but Deputies are urging people to find an alternate route into South Carolina.
