AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- In the last 24 hours, Augusta has seen three different shootings with multiple people injured. The latest shootings raise the number of gun violence crimes to 13 injured and five killed since mid-July.
The first shooting on Sunday took place around 2 a.m. at Pure Platinum, a club off Gordon Hwy. Deputies say several people started shooting randomly and one male victim was shot in his wrist. Three men were arrested and charged with multiple crimes ranging from aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The second shooting of the day happened on Old Savannah Road. Deputies say they're looking for a man who robbed a victim at gunpoint and then shot him in the leg. The shooter is still on the loose and all they know is that he goes by "Crusty."
The third shooting happened at Kenny's Master Cuts off Lumpkin Road. Deputies say around 1 p.m. two co-workers began arguing and one of the men pulled out a gun. Derrick Jackson, 22, was shot in his left foot and was treated for his injury on the scene.
With these three shootings happening on one day, News 12 asked investigators why they think there's been such a rise in gun violence.
"It's hard to say. We don't know if it's the heat -- it seems like when it gets hotter, we have more problems like this," a deputy told News 12.
Including Sunday's incidents, which makes 18 people shot in the last 16 days, that's more than one per day. That includes the five fatal incidents as well.
