ATLANTA (AP) -- A repaving project for the main interstate artery running through Atlanta is scheduled to start Saturday morning.
The so-called Downtown Connector where interstates 75 and 85 merge in the city will have most lanes closed from 7 a.m. Saturday through 5 a.m. Monday. State Department of transportation officials say the work, which will be done only on the weekends, will take 30 weeks or more.
The project has been delayed by rainy weather the last two weekends. DOT officials say work was scheduled to begin Friday night but expected showers will keep workers away until Saturday.
The connector was last paved right before the 1996 Olympic Games. Officials say it has reached the end of its 10- to 12-year lifespan.
