AUGUSTA, Ga.---Medical College of Georgia hosted a memorial today for Dr. Ji Cheng. She was the medical graduate student from China who was killed in a bus-pedestrian accident March 10.
Dr. Cheng died when she was struck by an Augusta transit bus as she was walking across 15th Street at Laney Walker Boulevard. The bus driver was not charged in the accident.
The school's President, Dr. Daniel Rahn, was among the speakers. Several of Dr. Cheng's friends also spoke, as did her husband, Chaohui Wu of China.
In response to concerns after the accident, MCG Public Safety officers began escorting pedestrians across the busy intersection during peak times of the day.
