Thomson mother Beth Ousley says she testified against him at his bond hearing, and will do what she can to get him convicted. Lewis Ogletree is in jail on two counts of molestation, two counts of sexual battery and one count of kidnapping. News 12 has more on this mother’s fight to keep her father behind bars and keep her children safe.
“Things changed 100% in her life. She just couldn’t cope,” Beth said.
She also says Lewis Ogletree molested two other female family members, one who is mentally disabled. She says it has been going on for almost a year.
“She started getting really aggressive after it happened to her. She wouldn’t come home from school, she just got very out of control,” Beth said.
Beth says she found out that Lewis Ogletree inappropriately touched her daughter from her cousin. Her daughter had a hard time talking about what happened.
“Since the secret got out, she’s been a lot better,” Beth said.
Her daughter now goes to school in Atlanta, and she mailed her grandma this poem:
“Why did he hurt me?
I was young, he was old
He loved me, or so I was told.
I loved him, and I still do
I’m just confused , and I had no clue why
He wanted to do that.
I just don’t understand.
If I tell, I’ll be a rat.
I was hurt, I was scared
And he was the one that dared.”
This information from the district attorney’s office says a woman is physically abused every nine seconds in the U.S. Only about one in ten of these cases get reported.
In a phone interview, Thomson District Attorney Dennis Sanders said that reporting child molestation is very difficult for a victim.
But it is also important because it is such a serious crime. That’s exactly what Beth did. She reported it and plans to do whatever she can to keep her father in jail.
The National Center for Victims of Violent Crimes says almost one third of women will be physically assaulted in their lifetime. The Georgia Department of Family and Children Services offers free and confidential services for victims of domestic abuse. You can call 1-800-334-2836 to speak with a local domestic violence shelter.
