COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga ---An accident on I-20 early Friday morning killed one person and backed up traffic on both sides of the interstate. The Columbia County Coroner's Officer tells us the car flipped over near mile marker 194, throwing the driver from the car.

The coroner's office now says the victim is Paul R. Williams, 27, of

Officers who worked the accident told News 12 Williams was traveling westbound on I-20 when he lost control and hit the concrete construction wall on the right side of the road. The vehicle then bounced across to the median and hit the wire center divider.

That's when Williams was ejected. He went into the eastbound lanes, where he was struck by two vehicles.

My heart goes out to the young man family. We have to make sure that we wear our seatbeats all the time. You never know what would happen.

I dont think the problem is with the construction taking place at this time. Instead its the drivers who refrain from obeying posted speed limits and in too much of a hurry. My heart goes out to Mr. Williams and his family, may his soul rest in peace. But I hope this be an alert to other drivers that its not the hazard of a construction zone or the type of vehicle being operated that causes accidents......but instead the driver behind the wheel of a vehicle in a construction zone.

It seems like since the construction has started on I-20, there have been a couple of fatalities that involved hitting a guardrail or concrete barrier. People need to be very careful when driving through there. There's not a lot of room to swerve side to side without hitting something.
