Georgia judge investigated

March 5, 2008

ATLANTA (AP) -- A south Georgia judge who faces misconduct
charges from a state judicial panel has also been the target of FBI
electronic surveillance, according to a report.

The Fulton County Daily Report quoted two attorneys who said a
federal prosecutor revealed that the FBI has conducted electronic
surveillance on Superior Court Judge Brooks E. Blitch III of Clinch
County.

Blitch currently faces misconduct charges filed last November by
the Judicial Qualifications Commission. The charges include
ordering illegal payments to Clinch County employees and ordering
the early release of imprisoned felons. Blitch has denied the
charges.

Separately, FBI agents executed a search warrant last June on
Blitch's office in Homerville. The judge has not been charged with
any crimes.
